It's the award-winning Rob Frost Show. I mention the awards because, hey I won 'em! Two of them...C.O.B. awards. I'd tell you what those initials stand for but you wouldn't be as impressed. I am honest...no phoney bologna radio for me. I live in "The Beach" in the '689' with my own very little slice of Lake Couchiching and commute daily to Barrie to drive you home. For quality of life for my family I chose to broadcast in this area and have been a part of Barrie and Central Ontario radio for almost two decades. Being a father of three allows for me to keep a healthy balance of content that relates to young, hip families in Central Ontario. Running, light weights, Yoga and a healthy diet are all important to me so I'll pass along relevant info during my show to help you and your family and friends, along with current events and other nonsense on my/your mind that day. I know, play and love music. Feedback...my contact info is here. Live.

Hey have you heard that the summer olympics are happening? Ya now...in Beijing. I do not know of anyone who is watching or excited about these games. I must however thank our own Deb and Dale (weekday mornings on 107.5 KOOL FM) for posting that video on their page of the Hungarian weightlifter dislocating his elbow...the only 2 minutes of these games I have viewed. Actually the only thing I have heard remotely close to water cooler talk up to this point is fellow Canadians here asking"hey have we won any medals?". These games were at one point a huge deal, and maybe if we had more contenders we all would be more interested, but so far they are great if you need to nap....but GO Canada!

...and further to yesterday's blog entry...when supposed 'music' video channels actually show a video I am then forced to endure some form of a scroll at the bottom of my tv screen displaying some idiot texting brilliant items like "hey Saskatoon what up..."
It's true...the internet has killed the video star.
August 13
Spent some time over the past couple of days with MUCH VIBE on in the background(yep). Hey I am not knocking the channel or the genre at all but how about the videos???? Whenever I would happen to glance at the screen the same few themes (with different players) were apparent. Money, thugs, ho's. Now I know they are not exactly programming to me but all that stuff is so over. I mean it's, at this point, laughable.
August 12
I was finally able to get out to see the movie 'Dark Knight'. First of all let me be clear...Heath Ledger was really good as The Joker...having said that, the movie is pretty good but waaaaaaay over-hyped. The Joker is just a really cool character to begin with, and yes Heath Ledger nailed it but Oscar award winning performance???? I get calls from younger female listeners telling me they have gone to see this movie three or four times. His tragic death prior to the release of this movie has somehow turned it into a movie that people are seeing the way Titanic drove movie-goers to theatres multiple times when it was on the big screen. I am not sure what can be gleaned from seeing Dark Knight a second or third time in the theatres. Yes I will watch it again when the dvd is released, but that's it. Let's stop glamorizing the tragic death of a young man who did not die "because he was so into his role" as Hollywood would like for us to believe. He died because he od'd and what drove him to that place is what will always remain a mystery...a sad one.
Aug 1-11...Holidays!!!

I was lucky enough to see Coldplay last night in Toronto at the ACC(thanks Ange for standing in line and getting us tix!) Anyhow they sounded really great but it seemed to me that something was just not quite right with Chris Martin. Don't get me wrong the guy has so much talent that even an off night is worth the price of admission. It turns out that he is really under the weather and is resting today so he can perform for the second sold-out show. If you are going enjoy! Below the instant 'classic' from a few years ago and the song that made my eyes a little blurry last night-Fix You.
July 30
I love fashion! It is very interesting how styles come and go. Lately I have been noticing the Rayban Wayfarer is making a comeback. "Artists" like Vampire Weekend and Katy Perry (who this weeks sits at #1 on The Top 20 Kool Countdown on 107.5 KoolFM) are sporting them...and honestly...I'm not so much on these glasses. Hey they were very popular in the 80's, but so was the mullet haircut. They were however cool when JFK wore them(see pic above)...that's the only time...and someone shot him. Now I'm not sayin' we go that far, but please STOP already with these shades.
July 29
Coldplay Wednesday and Thursday at ACC. This video features super producer Pharrell (N.E.R.D. and Neptunes), Julian from The Strokes and Santogold....Santogold opens for Coldplay. Enjoy.

...never would have thought this could be possible. With credit to canoe.ca for this, read below.
TORONTO - Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page, known for his quirky lyrics, environmental activism and clean-cut image, admitted to New York police that he was snorting cocaine prior to his arrest last week, court documents allege.
The documents, filed with the Fayetteville Village Court in New York, contain details from police as well as a statement from a woman arrested at the same time as the 38-year-old Toronto resident.
A felony complaint against the singer states he was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance early Friday morning after police stumbled upon a car parked across a driveway with its driver-side door open.
After tracking the license plate of the vehicle, police entered an apartment where they found Page and 25-year-old Stephanie Ford in the kitchen.
In a statement to police filed with the court, Ford said the two had just finished snorting what she believed to be cocaine using a rolled-up Canadian bill.
She said Page had stored several capsules containing a white powdery substance in a bottle labelled Calcium.
A separate court document states that police questioned Page about the substance he was snorting after it tested positive for cocaine.
"Yeah, it's cocaine," the documents quote Page as saying.
Police allege Page had about a third of an ounce of the drug on him at the time of his arrest. He was taken into police custody, but was later released after posting $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in a New York court on August 26. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
The court documents say Ford, who was also charged with drug possession, told police the evening's events began when Page got into a fight with his girlfriend, Christine Benedicto, at a local bar.
In her statement to police, Ford said Page believed Benedicto was flirting with another man.
Ford told police the two argued, with Page leaving the bar and planning to drive back to Canada after he had been drinking. Ford told police she forcibly restrained him from getting behind the wheel by following him back to the apartment she shares with Benedicto and sitting on him.
Benedicto later arrived at the apartment, confiscated Page's car keys, and drove off, according to Ford's statement. She was later arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
The criminal charge is a notable blemish on what has otherwise been a squeaky-clean run for the bespectacled Page and bandmates Ed Robertson, Tyler Stewart, Jim Creeggan and Kevin Hearn.
Since forming nearly 20 years ago in Toronto's east end, they've crafted a sizable catalogue of catchy, humour-filled hits including "If I Had a $1,000,000," "Yoko Ono," "One Week" and "It's All Been Done" while garnering several Juno wins and two Grammy nominations.
The band recently released a children's album called "Snacktime." Their next public appearance is slated for a benefit concert hosted by Disney and Playskool on behalf of four children's charities.
In a brief message posted on its website, the band thanked fans for their support and said "the validity of the charges against Steven will be strongly contested."
"While this is happening, it's business as usual for Barenaked Ladies," states the message at www.bnlmusic.com.

CHRIS ROCK! I'm sure you've heard of him?!? At a world-class entertainment venue-Casino Rama. Star of movies, 60 episodes of Saturday Night Live, host of the 77th Academy Awards...and mainly a brilliant comedian. One of those surreal moments that today is starting to sink in that I was seven rows from the stage at a venue I can see from my dock(across Lake Couchiching...if you look over the dead carp). Hats off to all at Casino Rama Entertainment (Lesley and Jeff)! Click HERE to view upcoming shows.

If you're going to choose some kind of sudden 'sickness' to fake your way out of a court appearance, don't choose a heart attack. A person who represents himself in court has an idiot for a client. By the way he's now serving 42 years in prison.
July 14
This is the week leading up to my first week of holidays for 2008. Busy week on the Rob Frost Show on 107.5 KOOLFM. Also a busy week after hours with shows in our area...one of which is Chris Rock at Casino Rama. One of the world's biggest stars and one of my favourite comedians in our own backyard...I can literally see the casino from my dock. Check out HERE to view the full Casino Rama entertainment lineup and listen for my review of the Chris Rock show Wednesday on my show.

Yessssssss...another weekend! Once again for your viewing pleasure the current #1 video in rotation at our household. Travis is one of my favourite drummers and when he adds his touch to hit songs it is infectious both aurally and visually. Thanks for listening to The Rob Frost Show on 107.5 KOOLFM! Live

Yesterday on the Rob Frost Show on 107.5 KOOLFM I mentioned that I was REALLY out of sorts due to being 'consulted'. Every now and then we as announcers are forced to sit down and be, get this, critiqued by a professional consultant. Our guy is Greg D. and to be honest with you he is good. He knows his stuff and although I wouldn't want him to know this I actually really like the guy. Anyhow he asked me to make a couple of minor adjustments and it completely threw me off. Kinda like changing a golf swing...at first it feels very awkward but in the long run it should improve your game by a couple of strokes....speaking of which...thanks Greg!'

I love my family. I am blessed with three beautiful, healthy, kind etc etc children. Recently I had a dream while sleeping that I was the new drummer for Pearl Jam (one of my favourite bands). In the dream I was hanging with and playing drums with them in huge arenas. I shared this info with a friend of mine who remarked about how cool that would actually be as she knows that drumming is such a passion for me and that to live that sort of life with a band I hold in such high regard would be a perfect match. I told her that, if it ever was ever a real-life opportunity, I would actually DO IT! She noticed that I really meant it, and commented that 'hey the kids could always just tag along on the road' while I was on tour.
Like I said, I love them...but noooo. Outside of when our tour bus pulls through their town...wave to daddy on youtube.
July 2
FAT/Chubby/Overweight VS SKINNY/Thin/in-shape...WHAT A DOUBLE STANDARD!!!!!!
CLICK THE PIC
Let me start by saying...I am thin. I am also very strong. I run and I do moderate strength training (310 pushups during the Drive at Five on the Rob Frost Show on Monday). Roughly two years ago I decided I wanted to get into the shape I am now in. Since then I am, at least weekly, reminded to "eat a hamburger or something" or "man you are skinny...are you sick?" usually by people who should "maybe skip the next hamburger" or are 'OVER-WEIGHT'. People are so quick to offer their advice when a person is thin, but I can only imagine the uproar we would experience as thin people if we all decided to start telling chubbies to ease back from the buffet.
"Hey 'Jane'..have you been ok? I mean your butt is getting bigger every time I see you...you must be shoving junk-food down through those puffy cheeks at every opportunity eh?...Why don't you try some exercise and leave some food for Ectomorphs like me?"
Can't we all just get along? Comments? See my contact info above.

June 27(and the weekend)
Enjoy this video...the co-host gets her earring or pendant caught on the performing guest's jacket. At first I think he is assuming she is playing around, then I believe he just doesn't want to stop because it would then be obvious (like we were fooled at all) that he is not singing live. Regardless it is HILARIOUS!!!!
Have a great weekend!!!... and thanks for listening to the Rob Frost Show on 107.5 KOOLFM
June 26
...I have yet to check my 6/49 ticket from last night's draw.(see yesterday's blog entry).
Canada's birthday is coming up and it falls on a Tuesday. Many people calling this a long weekend when in fact it really isn't. The stat is Tuesday. Look for my Canada Day quiz on this page Monday...and some of it on the Rob Frost Show on 107.5 KOOLFM.
Last night was so great at my place. Hot, on the water jet-skiing with the family, celebrating the end of another school year. My kids brought home amazing report cards...very proud dad.
June 25
Lotto 6/49's jackpot is around 30 million for tonight's draw. I have some tix. Someone asked me this morning if I was to win would I quit my job...I really had to think. That's a pretty good feeling to realize I still really love what I do. If I win I 'll let you know my final decision. Good luck to you too if you have tix (good luck winning the other 'smaller' prizes).
A Prayer...(is there internet in heaven?)
Dear Jesus...please let me win the top prize from lotto 6/49 tonight. I will do some good with the money and if you grant me this I think it would really help with some of those who have little faith that you are real.
June 24
Yesterday while standing in line for my morning coffee I witnessed something I'm sure you'll agree is gross and that also caused me to pause and wonder for a moment. I was four or five people behind a guy in the line who decided it was the perfect time to insert his index finger in his ear and give it a clean AND MAKE SURE HE THEN INSPECTED HIS BOUNTY!!!! He did this three times in his left ear and twice in his right all the while talking to his buddy. Each time he removed the ear gunk from his finger by rubbing it on his thumb allowing it to then just drop to the tiled floor.
Now that I am a little older I use moments like these to examine myself. I ask questions like 'why does this bother me so much' and 'why can't I say something to this dude' ? I think this guy genuinely didn't realize what he was doing and how sickening it is to do in public.
Then I started to wonder if I myself have something that I do that I have no idea that others find gross... and do I do it in public???? Like, am I at the amusement park and just decide to pee on the nearest tree?? Or do I lick the back of my hand and use it to clean my armpits ????
Have you seen anything like this ? OR ...have you ever had to tell someone that they needed to find a private spot to tend to their 'whatever'? As always I'll keep it anonymous...contact info for me is up above.

Heard a lot of good feedback regarding the Hedley show this past weekend that 107.5KOOLFM presented at the Old Roxy in Mount Forest! Thanks also to Jacob (Hoggard...the singer...)who was my guest this past Friday on the Rob Frost Show. We talked about Hedley's success of late, how much he is really trying to appreciate it "cuz this sort of thing doesn't happen every day or last forever" and how "interesting" it was when New Kids on the Block performed to major hoopla at the Much Music Video Awards.
RIP George Carlin. 71...
Check back here tomorrow so I can tell you about something gross I witnessed this morning that got me to thinkin...

This video is in high rotation on our family computer. It is a really good example of how a video can really add immense depth to an otherwise 'just ok' song. The band is Flobots and the song is called Handlebars.

"...I wish we hadn't spent all the money back in the day."
Yesterday on the Rob Frost Show on 107.5 KOOLFM I mentioned the headline "Has The Internet Killed the Video Star"...I believe so...RIP MUCH MUSIC...how many more MMVA shows will follow this weekend's show ???
The '90s boy band New Kids on the Block are the latest addition to the celebrity lineup set for this weekend's MuchMusic Video Awards.
The pop quintet is preparing to release a new album and is gearing up for a reunion tour roughly 15 years after breaking up.
The boys join MMVA performers that also include Rihanna, Kardinal Offishall with Akon and the dance crew JabbaWockeeZ.
Presenters include Mel C of the Spice Girls, Rainn Wilson of "The Office," "Gossip Girl"'s Chace Crawford and gossip blogger Perez Hilton.
The bash airs June 15 from MuchMusic's streetside studio on Toronto's trendy Queen Street. Leading nominees include Hedley, Belly and IllScarlett
Have a great weekend...HAPPY FATHER'S DAY Sunday!

Thanks for all of your e-mail and feedback to yesterday's item (see below). Here are a few excerpts from my audience's input.
Regarding dating a friend’s ex….
"Sometimes you can't help how you feel and even tho you know maybe you should stop it, it would probably be something we would have regretted had we not gone forward. I always say that chemistry is a powerful thing. Sometimes in the end it all works out....at least I like to think so"...
"All I have to say is……….NO NO NO….It’s an unwritten rule…you DO NOT date a friends ex....if a friend dated my ex…..they are not very good friends now are they???"
"I believe that what my friend doesn't know won't hurt him/her and he/she will never know. It is just WRONG on so many levels but life is short and you don't meet many people that you click with."
...I stand behind what I originally said. It's wrong.

Dating a friend's ex...this came up in conversation recently. What do you think? You can e-mail me your (short) perspective at robfrost@1075koolfm.com ...This article HERE talks about it mainly from a female perspective, but as a guy I can tell you that it is ok if one of your buddies tries to be with your ex...as long as he never expects to be your friend anymore-it's a guy code.
I'll share some of your thoughts (anonymously) on the Rob Frost show on 107.5 KOOLFM.

Jessica Simpson Warns Jennifer Aniston About John Mayer...Jessica Simpson is trying to warn Jennifer Aniston to be careful with new man John Mayer, because he is a notorious "ladies man". A source says: “Jessica wants Jen to be aware of what she’s letting herself get into with John. She doesn’t want her to make the same mistakes. John is a ladies man.” I found this interesting...I mean does anybody at this point in time NOT know about what a swordsman John is...??? Click HERE for some of his resume.

This is truly amazing, what a beautiful story
Incredible Story In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University. On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed his stupid ass against the railing, killing him instantly. Probably wasn't the same elephant. This is for all of my friends who send me those heart-warming stories.

As you may or may not know I am fortunate enough to do freelance voice-over work to supplement my income with many different companies. One of those companies is Bell Expressvu. I have been doing business with them now for nine years and they are a first-class operation. Proving it to me once again when this beautiful arrangement arrived at our door this morning for my daughter Chloe who recently had surgery at the great Sick Kids Hospital. It was to wish her a speedy recovery. Needless to say it put a huge smile on her face while at the same time made me feel very valued as their partner.
Thanks Garry and friends at Bell Expressvu. (Chloe took this pic!)

Had an awesome night last night after leaving 107.5 KoolFm studios. My son and I went out on our boat for an evening cruise on Lake Couchiching. Not long after launching (somewhere near Big Chief Island) a storm approached from the distance. We were able to view the storm as it gained intensity and shifted direction. Fortunately, as we watched the amazing lightning crashes a safe distance from us, we managed to beat the storm and arrived back at our dock with enough time to put the cover on the boat and reach the safety and shelter of our front porch.
I say it was an awesome night not only because we were able to view such an incredible display of nature, but because it was one of those father/son bonding-as-we-braved-the-elements moments I'm sure we will always recall with fondness.
Hope you had a great weekend! It was beautiful around my homestead. BBQ'ing, boating and excellent family time!
Just a few days left to qualify to win with 'A Bike A Day In May' on 107.5 KOOL FM. Listen for the bicycle bell sounder and be caller 7 at 727-1075 to qualify to win a 21 speed Raleigh Tomahawk. Good Luck.

Simple...Mother Nature owes us. If it's any consolation, it actually snowed two years ago during the Victoria Day Weekend...ya that makes us all feel MUCH better....Short work week though!!!!!
Getting prepped for another awesome summer...'summer'izing the boat, putting the dock in and cleaning the yard. Today as I was passing by a magazine rack in the local store I noticed a headline reminding me that after this weekend it's "Only 13 Weekends to Labour Day". Summer, like life, is short.

A Mouse In My House
Wednesday May 7th
Ok...so if you scroll down my page you will notice that I mentioned moles could live on my lawn without fear of me waging war and poisoning them. I still stand by that. However (after waking this morning and discovering a mouse and remnants amounting to evidence of maybe a few of his friends) let me make myself quite clear regarding wildlife moving INTO my house. End of deal. Peanut butter, a few traps and by this time tomorrow the mouse's head(s) will be on my wall.
Sick kid at Sick Kids
Had to leave very quickly last Thursday afternoon during my show (thanks Jenn Hadfield for filling in so quickly!). Friday my oldest daughter had emergency surgery. She is recovering well. I hope to return Tuesday. I will wax poetic about what an amazing hospital this is on my show sometime soon.

In the early 90's Miley's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, gave the world the "Achy Breaky Heart". With his by-far-the-world's-greatest MULLET ever, encouraged many a plump cowgirl to stuff themselves into tight jeans and line-dance. Now after just recently finding it in my heart to forgive him along comes his talented daughter to either remind those of us old enough to remember those days or to introduce a new generation to this....click below and enjoy!!!
