AMC Reverses Decision to Allow Texting in Theatres

Public outcry prompted AMC to reverse their decision

AMC’s new CEO is off to a rough start. After announcing that they would allow texting in theaters, because “You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life.” The company has reversed their decision, issuing a public statement on Twitter:

NO TEXTING AT AMC. Won’t happen. You spoke. We listened. Quickly, that idea has been sent to the cutting room floor. pic.twitter.com/JR0fo5megR

This conversation brings up a larger issue of the impact of technology on our youth. While technology is often thought of as increasing productivity that is not always the case. In fact, studies found that students waste on average five school days per year by using their cell phones in class.
