And The Heat Just Keeps On Coming

May take us into October

Another bout of high heat and humidity upon us. We should be used to it by now. Environment Canada’s David Phillips says July was two degrees warmer than normal, we had 18 days above 30 degrees and 60 per cent less rain than usual. And the humidity, he says, was not so much atmospheric in nature, but from something calls Crop Sweat…

What has been noticeably absent this summer is severe weather. there have been just two or three low-grade tornadoes – the average is around 12 – and there’s not been much in the way of thunder and lightning…

And we haven’t seen the hazy conditions often associated with high heat and humidity. High anti-pollution standards get some of the credit, but Phillips says fewer pollutants from industry in the U.S. Midwest may be a factor as well.

As for the remainder of the summer, Phillips says Environment Canada’s computer models are indicating more of the same, and it could last through September, maybe even into October.
