Barrie Creates Sharing Economy Task Force

Newly Created Team To Investigate Uses for Uber, Airbnb, And The Like

Barrie is mulling over what a Sharing Economy means for the city. At Monday night’s meeting, council voted to approve the creation of a Sharing Economy Task Force before giving them six months to get the job done. The task force will be made of city staff and local Technology leaders, and will look at all the opportunities, benefits, and risks to the use of sharing economy apps or related services in the city. Services such as Uber, Airbnb, or crowdfunding will be under this task force’s scrutiny, and they’ll report back in the summer of 2017 to recommend what role, if any, the city should play in the administration and enforcement of this sharing economy.
