Break Down On Lake Simcoe Could Have Been Worse

Police Say Snowmobile-Related Fatalities Are Up Over Last Year

Things could have gone a lot worse for one Innisfil man, after he ventured out on the ice. South Simcoe Police say a snowmobile broke down while out on Lake Simcoe Sunday afternoon. He had his cell with him, and called his wife to tell her where he was. She turned around and told police, who went out to meet the guy. Good thing too, once the snow kicked up, he lost his way. Police airboats were dispatched, the man was able to get safely to shore and didn’t require any medical attention. Meanwhile, the Barrie OPP say they laid several charges after patrolling snow trails over the weekend, adding they were on high alert following 13 snowmobile related fatalities so far this year. There were eight last year. Officers on patrol throughout Oro Medonte handed out charges including Failing to Stop at Stop Sign, No Insurance, or Failing to Register Snow Machine.
