Canadians Opting For Cheaper, Less Healthy Foods – Survey

Many shunning high-priced fruits and vegetables

Are you skipping fresh fruits and vegetables for cheaper, less healthy foods. A survey by University of Guelph and Dalhousie University finds two-thirds of Canadians are opting for cheaper foods as the price of healthy foods, such as cauliflower, broccoli and lettuce remains high. Some said they had opted for frozen vegetables. Lower-income families were more likely to cut back on as prices rose over the last year – cauliflower at one point last winter was $8 a head. Rising vegetable prices are often the result of drought in California, and on exchange rates.
