Feds Announce New Rules To Keep Housing Market In Check

Finance Minister Bill Morneau says rising home prices mean Canadians are taking higher debt. As of next fall, all mortgages will have to pass certain stress tests and meet certain criteria. He has also served notice he’s closing a loophole in Canada’s tax law, allowing non-residents to buy homes in Canada, then get a tax exemption when they sell that home again.
