UPDATE: Human Remains Found In Simcoe County Forest Identified

Victim reported missing last fall

Friday – OPP say a post mortem has indentified the remains found this week in Springwater Township as 30 year old Jamie Lee Miller, who had been reported to Barrie Police last November. She had not been seen by family and friends for a month at that point. A cause of death has not been released, but it is considered a homicide. The remains were found just after noon Wednesday by a person walking their dog in the Simcoe County Forest near Gill Road and Hillview Crescent.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025 ext. 2160 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Tuesday – A resident walking their dog came across human remains early Wednesday afternoon in the Simcoe County Forest near Gill Road and Hillview Crescent in Springwater Township. It’s too soon to say if the remains are male or female or how long they may have been there. Due to the location, there is still a lot of ice and snow on the ground. A post mortem is expected to take place on Friday. Officers will be on scene at least until tomorrow. OPP Sergeant Peter Leon say it’s an area frequented by hikers and others making use of a spring-fed water pipe, adding the water pipe will likely be unavailable until after police have cleared the scene.
