(LOOK) Home Depo Pulls Halloween Decoration After Customer Complaint

Some Believe Item Glamourizes Idea of ‘Peeping Toms’

Home Depo has pulled a Halloween decoration called the ‘Scary Peeper Creeper’ after a customer complaint was filed.

The decoration is marketed and designed to be used as a prank. It’s a life-like head of a man looking like he’s peering into a window, and you use a suction cup to attach the head to the outside of a window.

But to some, they believe the decoration glamourizes the idea of ‘Peeping Toms’, and one woman in particular took offence and filled a complaint. Breanne Hunt-Wells saw the ‘Scary Peeper Creeper’ in a Markham, Ontario store and said to CBC news it’s “inappropriate and makes light of a real-life, sinister issue that women face in our society.”

After the decoration had been pulled from store shelves, Home Depot Canada Director of Communications, External Affairs and Sustainability, Paul Berto said in a statement: “We agree that this is not in line with our core values and when we heard, we took immediate action and have removed this product from our assortment at Home Depot Canada. We reached out to advise the customer of our actions and apologize. We’re sorry for any offence that was caused.”

The company that makes the prank item, Scary Peeper, has been selling the product since 2012.
