Madonna was honoured at the Billboard Women in Music event on Friday night and her acceptance speech for winning Woman of the Year was the most blunt and honest of all acceptance speeches. She spoke her truth on geneder inequality and the tough realities of being a woman in her industry.
“I stand before you as a doormat. Oh, I mean, as a female entertainer. Thank you for acknowledging my ability to continue my career for 34 years in the face of blatant sexism and misogyny and constant bullying and relentless abuse.”
