Microsoft Banning ‘Bad’ Passwords

Wants to help you pick a better one

Every few months we get a list of bad passwords people use for their online accounts, things like ‘password’ and ‘123456’, which are easy for online thieves to figure out. In a blogpost, Microsoft says it’s going to make it easier for you to choose a better password – a stronger password – by putting together a list of all the moronic passwords and not allowing you to use them. You won’t notice a lot of difference until you choose a dumb password, at which point you’ll be prompted to “choose a password that’s harder for people to guess.”
