Search For Barrie Woman Curtailed Once Again

New leads will be followed up

March 3: Barrie Police have again called off the physical search for Mandy Thompson, who has been missing since early February. They had taken advantage of the mild weather and snow melt this week to renew the search effort in the north end. Officers will continue to follow-up new leads in the case.

February 28: Police today are resuming the search for Mandy Thompson. The 72-year-old Barrie woman was last seen the morning of February 3rd at her north end Barrie home, while police believe she was seen on home security footage later that morning in the Penetanguishene Road area approaching Oro Medonte. Authorities called off the search for Mandy a week later, but say today police and search crews are resuming the search by ground and by air, with milder weather allowing them to search areas previously missed.

February 11: Barrie Police have suspended the search for a missing 72 year old woman. Mandy Thompson was reported missing February 3. There have been exhaustive searches since, most recently along the northern boundary of the city and in Oro-Medonte. Officers will follow up on any further tips in the case. If you have information that may be helpful, call Barrie Police at 705-725-7025 ext 2160 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

February 7: The Barrie Police Service received a tip in its search for Mandy Thompson, indicating she had been in Oro-Medonte around 10:00 Friday morning. Video surveillance shows someone matching her description walking northbound along Penetanguishene Rd near Georgian Drive at the time. Oro-Medonte residents are asked to check their properties for any sign of Mandy.

February 4: Police, fire, paramedics and volunteer search and rescue teams have scoured wooded areas, searched on the water and pleaded with residents to check their backyards and outbuildings – surveillance video if they have it – and still, there’s been no sign of 72 year old Mandy Thompson. She was last seen early Thursday morning at her home on Laidlaw Drive in Barrie’s north end. She’s described as
