An asteroid is going to sweep by the earth today, but don’t worry, it will be 15-million kilometres away. You can go online to view live images of the asteroid Apophis, which is just over 300 metres in diameter and is named after a Greek god, who “personified death, destruction and chaos.” Even though Apophis will not collide with the earth this time, astronomers say there will be a close call in 2029 and the asteroid could actually collide with our planet on Friday, April 13th, 2036. Apophis is expected to pass by the earth, starting around 7 o’clock tonight. To watch live images of the event, click here.
