UPDATE: Twister Touched Down Near Stayner, But Not In Collingwood

Tornado in Stayner determined to have been EF-1

October 20 – Environment Canada has determined it was a downburst, not a tornado, that caused the heavy damage in Collingwood during Monday’s storm. EC has also determined the tornado that struck Stayner to be EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

October 18 – Weather specialists say a tornado did touch down near Stayner yesterday, but they’re not sure how strong it was. Environment Canada says the twister touched down around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. Weather investigators continue looking at the damage there, along with damage reported in Collingwood. This marks Ontario’s eleventh tornado of the season, while the province generally sees twelve tornadoes during a season that lasts from late April to mid October.
