In 1984, Prince recorded the song “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The song initially appeared on a 1985 self-titled release from Prince side-project The Family. The song would become an international hit in 1990 when Sinead O’Connor recorded her own version for her sophomore record, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.
Prince’s estate has released the original recording of the song, which was unearthed by Michael Howe, the estate’s vault archivist. The release of the song was accompanied with an official video, featuring rehearsal footage of Prince & The Revolution from the summer of 1984. Check it out below.
