Zero Hate Crimes Reported in Barrie

Tied With Guelph For Having No Hate Crimes Reported For Every 100,000 People

Barrie is  tied with Guelph for having the lowest number of reported hate crimes across Canada. And that number? Zero. That’s according to Statistics Canada, who just ran the numbers for 2015, and while Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman is happy to hear it, he’s remaining realistic.

StatsCan adds Thunder Bay saw the highest number of hate crimes reported at nearly 25 per hundred thousand people. While hate crimes involving someone’s sexual orientation declined by 9 per cent in 2015 from the year before, Statistics Canada indicates crimes motivated by Arab and East Asian heritage had increased by 5 per cent.
