Barrie Council Votes In Favour Of Site Plan For South End High School…Barely

Vote was 6-5 in favour

Barrie City Council has approved a site plan for a high school in the south end. It’s the same site plan it turned down a year and a half ago, the only difference noted Mayor Jeff Lehman, is some added landscaping. Some councillors around the chamber were disgusted at compromising on the city’s planning principles. Others, while not clearly happy about how this has played out, voted in favour citing the desperate need for the school. Last night’s approval, by a 6-5 vote, will allow the board to put the school building at the south end of the property at Mapleview and Prince William Way. City planning policies had dictated a building at the north end.
