Barrie Jobless Rate Sees Slight Jump

City's Unemployment Rate Rises Along With Provincial, Federal Rates

Barrie’s unemployment rate saw a bit of a jump last month. Statistics Canada says today Barrie’s jobless rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 8.7 per cent last month. That’s up from 7.9 in July. Ontario’s unemployment is up a titch to 6.7, while the federal rate is up one tenth of a percentage point to 7.0, despite the economy gaining over 26 thousand new jobs. Those in the know say more people entered the workforce last month.
