Barrie Man Goes On 23-Minute Tear

Cellphone stolen, businesses held up

A 23 year old Barrie man is facing numerous charges after an intoxicated tour of the city Saturday afternoon. Police say it began around 2pm when an Alfred Street resident said a man had taken his camcorder and cellphone. He was able to get the camera back, but the suspect successfully fled with the phone. A few minutes later, police say the same man was reported walking in and out of traffic on Bradford Street, before trying to hold up a business there. He fled when staff called police. It wasn’t long before the clerk at a Victoria Street businesses called police to say a man had made a demand for money before removing the cash drawer and about $300 from the till. Police caught up with him a few minutes later on Ellen Street. He was taken to RVH for treatment for cuts to his hand suffered when he took the till. Charges include Theft, Robbery, Mischief and Attempt To Escape Lawful Custody.
