Barrie, ON – Business and Professional Women’s Club of Barrie is proud to welcome Colonel Yve Thomson as special guest speaker at the BPW Barrie General Meeting on March 15, 2016

About Colonel Yve Thomson – Colonel Thomson hails from Manitouwadge, a small mining community in Northern Ontario. She joined the Canadian Forces under the Direct Entry Officer Program and received her Commission on completion of Basic Officer Training in 1989. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from McMaster University and a Masters of Defence Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. A graduate of the NATO Defence College Senior Course, she then attended the National Security Programme at the Canadian Forces College. In June 2014 she was promoted to her current rank and assumed formation command of the Air Force Training Center. Colonel Thomson is honoured to now be appointed as Commander 16 Wing at Canadian Forces Base Borden.

About BPB Barrie – The Business and Professional Women’s Clubs of Barrie (BPW Barrie) is a non-sectarian, non-profit, non-partisan organization that promotes the interests of working women. It operates within the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs (BPW Canada) toward the improvement of the status of women in all phases of society, especially in business, the professions and industry. BPW Barrie is not a service organization, however, it is involved in a variety of community work, such as support for local women’s shelters, organizations with a mandate to support women in our community, and post-secondary bursaries for female students. BPW Barrie, via affiliation with BPW Ontario, is a member of the Provincial Council of Women and the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), and interacts with other organizations in areas of mutual interest and concern. A few examples include Friends of Women’s College Hospital, Soroptimist, Zonta, UNESCO, UNIFEM and University Women.

BPW Barrie holds General Meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at the Barrie Country Club. These dinner meetings include guest speakers, interesting discussion topics, advocacy and resolutions, philanthropic projects, learning opportunities and social events for BPW Barrie members and guests. In addition to workshops, speakers, entertainment and networking, BPW Barrie has an active advocacy team addressing current events pertaining to women’s issues. The advocacy team works toward the creation of resolutions that form the basis of an annual brief to the Government of Ontario as well as submissions to other organizations.
