Canadian Kids A Lazy Bunch

Few getting enough 'heart-pumping' activity - ParticipACTION study

Canadian kids get a D-grade on the ParticipACTION report card for a fourth year in a row. In fact, the ParticipACTION study released today finds just nine per cent of Canadian kids, ages 5-17, get the recommended 60 minutes “heart-pumping activity” a day. The United States, England, Australia and Spain did not fare much better. Conversely, Slovenia got a top mark of A-minus. Lead researcher, Dr. Mark Tremblay, places a lot of the blame on too much screen time and not enough free, unstructured play time. He also laments a “choose not to” attitude.
