Careful On The Ice; Near Creeks And Streams

Mild temps and rain not a good combination

The mild weather has raised concerns about thin ice, slippery banks and faster flowing creeks and streams.

Police advise you check with local fish hut operators before you head out onto the lake or bay; they have the inside track on where the ice is thickest and where you’re likely to break through.

Conservation authorities say the mild temperature coupled with the expected rainfall will mean an increase in snow melt causing creeks and stream to swell. No major flooding is expected, but there could be localized flooding and ice jams.

Municipal officials ask that you clear snow and ice from catch basins near your property to help avoid flooding.
