Concern Raised Over Sale Of Parking Lot Next To Downtown Library

Councillor Ward Worried About Impact To Library, Patrons

Some concern raised last night at Barrie City Council about the sale of a parking lot at 60 Worsley Street – the one next to the downtown library. City staff say it is only 40 per cent filled at the best of times and note there is lots of on-street parking nearby. Councillor Barry Ward wanted to delay the sale of this lot until the impact of the sale of other nearby lots could be assessed. He’s worried about the impact the Worsley lot sale might have on patrons of the library – and the library itself. he noted the lot was more than half-filled when he drove by it last night and talked of the inconvenience to families trying to get out of cars parked next to snowbanks in the winter. A majority of council denied his motion. The city will see if there are any takers for the lot and go from there.
