Some people live off the grid in the middle of nowhere. The Foy Family floats off the grid within comfortable commuting distance to mainland and work. This is their floating two-storey seasonal cottage, located in North Haven, Maine.  It was a 10-year building project and once completed the original plan was to rent it out, that quickly changed and now they call it home from May to November.
