Design Plans In Place; Construction Set To Begin On Rec Centre In Orillia

Increasing costs a concern, sort of

Orillia City Council got a look last night at the design plans for the new rec centre at 255 West Street South. It will include an eight-lane lap pool, gymnasium, basketball courts and more. Construction is set to begin this summer. “Orillia’s Recreation Facility project is really starting to take shape and Council is excited about what this facility and overall site will mean for the future health and development of Orillia,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “This project will connect the community not only physically through the Lightfoot trail system, but also figuratively as it serves as the social heart of the city. We are eager for its construction to begin this summer.” Some concern was expressed last night the low Canadian dollar might add to the final cost of the facility though other factors, such as lower oil prices and competition in the construction industry, might offset that.
