Diabetes Study Questions Need To Monitor Blood Sugar

Researcher Claims Our Thinking Is Flawed

There’s going to be a lot of talk about this; a study out of the Mayo Clinic questions the need for people with Type 2 diabetes to tightly control their blood sugar. Diabetes specialist Dr Victor Montori has been searching through the medical literature, looking for proof to support the widely held belief and says he can’t find any. He says our thinking may have been flawed. A diabetes researcher at McMaster in Hamilton says it is possible some other mechanism, or a combination of factors besides high blood sugar is responsible for potential long-term complications. Millions of people are taking glucose-lowering drugs, but with that comes the risk of side effects including weight gain, dizziness and coma. More information here and here.
