Hockey broadcasters Don Cherry and Ron MacLean are among those Canadian celebrities getting a star of Canada’s Walk of Fame….Also being honoured, Michael Buble…. Shawn Mendes will be receiving a special award from Canada’s Walk of Fame. The teen singer-songwriter has been selected as the recipient of the Allan Slaight honour, presented each year to a young Canadian making a positive impact in the music industry. Jason Priestley will return as host of this year’s induction ceremony, which will be held in Toronto on Nov. 7 and televised on Dec. 17 on Global.

 

Jim Carrey’s on and off girlfriend Cathriona White has died after reportedly taking her own life. The 30-year-old’s body was found by friends at an undisclosed residence in Los Angeles on Monday night. Sources tell TMZ.com the deceased left a suicide note, which reportedly mentions the actor and states the couple split last week. White also shut down her Twitter.com account on 24 September following her final tweet, which read: “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest.”

Pharrell Williams and his book publisher have launched a “Happy” campaign for young readers. Along with Penguin Young Readers, the singer has partnered with FirstBook, a nonprofit literacy organization, to donate up to 50,000 books to children in low-income families. Pharrell’s picture book, “Happy,” based on his hit song, comes out next week.
