FESTIVAL EATS: YOUR GUIDE TO FOOD AT WAYHOME

Festival Feeds for 2016

If we asked you what you’re most looking forward to at WayHome other than the music – what would you say? The food? Thought so. Between the huge variety of vendors, VIP offerings, and special food events, this year’s festival will be a foodie’s paradise. Here’s what you can look forward to:

5 MUST-TRY EATS

With over 30 awesome vendors lined up for this year’s festival and only 3 days to consume as much food as humanly possible, there will be some tough decisions involved. We’re here to make things a little easier on you:
5 must-try eats at WayHome:

HEIRLOOM

Heirloom is a Toronto ‘farm-to-truck’ food truck that is bringing sustainability and bold flavours to WayHome this July. What kind of flavours you ask? You’ll be able to try their Szechuan chicken, pork belly bahn mi, and duck confit sandwiches to name a few. Everything pairs nice with a side of curry fries and cheesecake-in-a-can for a sweet finish.

CHIMNEY STAX

You’ve probably been seeing these tasty treats all over your Instagram and you’ll finally be able to get your hands – and mouths – on one at WayHome this summer. The Toronto food truck specializes in the spirals of vegan dough, served sweet or savoury. Some sweet options include sprinkles, cinnamon, apple pie, or stuffed with ice cream. If you’re feeling something more savoury, try the cheesy garlic, Reuben, or buffalo chicken.

THE FOOD DUDES

Arguably Toronto’s most exciting catering company right now is taking their cross-cultural street eats to Burl’s Creek via the Food Dudes food truck for the second summer in a row. The mac-n-cheese balls are the perfect snack you need to fuel between sets. If you’ve got your eyes on something more substantial, they’ll be feeding festival-goers fish tacos and their specialty Food Dudes burger all weekend long.

UNCLE SMOKE BBQ

Uncle Smoke is on a mission: To provide WayHomies with an authentic southern wood-fire barbecue experience. Expect some of the best traditional finger-licking BBQ staples like spare ribs, pork shoulder, and brisket sandwiches, cooked in Uncle Smoke’s award-winning sauces and rubs. Of course, no barbecue is complete without classic sides of baked beans, slaw and cornbread.

THE SAUCY PIEROGI

Toronto’s first “modern pierogarnia” will be taking the art of the pierogi to WayHome with both classic and new twists of the traditional Polish dish. Have a pierogi party with your crew and try them all: cheddar and potato, spinach and feta, jerk chicken, and pulled pork. There will also be schnitzels and pickles on a stick.

FEAST IN THE FOREST

Kick off your WayHome weekend with a unique culinary experience nestled in the lush Ontario forest. Feast in The Forest, presented by the “anti-restaurant” Charlie’s Burgers, is a new ticketed event that celebrates the culinary arts with a 6-course dinner and wine pairings. Tucked in amongst the beautiful pine trees, wild flowers and pond, of the super exclusive Artist Hospitality area this is sure to be a truly unique dining experience. Kick off WayHome weekend with this tasty event that runs prior to with the ArtWalk on Thursday July 21.

THE DRAKE VIP EATS

The Drake is back feeding very important hungry people at WayHome this year! If you’re lucky enough to have VIP access, you’re in for a real treat. The Drake Café will give you the festival fuel you need with breakfast bowls, burgers, avocado toast, falafels, and more. Drake Chinatown will be satisfying cravings with pork + shrimp dumplings, sesame chicken wings, kung pao broccoli, just to name a few. And what would a festival be without a fiesta? Drake Fiesta will be cooking up your favourite Mexican flavours with tacos, nachos, corn and more!
