Final Report From Truth and Reconciliation Commission Handed Down

Report Outlines Deaths of Over 3,000 Indigenous Students

Calling it an ending and a beginning, the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was released today, outlining a dark chapter of Canadian history. The Commission has found that more than 3,000 indigenous children and youth died in residential schools, with many of them buried in unmarked graves. The over 32-hundred page report outlines the domino effect on the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit population after not regulating church-operated, state-funded schools. Over 15,000 students passed through the doors of those schools between 1867 and 2000. A copy of the final report is available on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission website. Updated link HERE.
