Join Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) at the 2016 Fire Prevention Week events to help raise awareness about the importance of fire safety.

Oct 10–23 TVO Kids Push 2 Buttons Campaign!

BFES, the Office of the Fire Marshal and TVOKids are teaming up to encourage everyone to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Kids can visit www.tvokids.com to enter the number of alarms they’ve tested and print a special certificate.

Oct 11 FPW Official Kick-off

10–11am

Fire Station #1, 155 Dunlop St. West

Join the Mayor, the Ontario Fire Marshal, Barrie Fire Chief and Firefighters as they kick-off Fire Prevention Week with the premier of Barrie Fire’s latest fire safety music video. Willie Nelson fans won’t want to miss this.

Oct 11 Domino’s Pizza Partnership

6–8pm

Dinner is on us – if your alarms are working! BFES has partnered with Domino’s Pizza to deliver pizza and make sure residents have functioning smoke and CO alarms.  If the alarms are present and working, the pizza is FREE!

Oct 9-16 Help Fill the Sparky Van with Outdated Alarms & You Could WIN!

 

Sparky’s on a mission to make sure every home in Barrie has working smoke and CO) alarms.  Here’s how you can help:

  1. Check the date on your alarms.
  2. If they’re expired, drop them off at one of the following locations with proof that they’ve been replaced (a photo on your phone or a receipt).

Drop-off locations:

  • Fire Station 1, 155 Dunlop Street West – Tuesday to Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm
  • Allandale Recreation Centre, 190 Bayview Drive – Tuesday to Sunday during open hours 
  • East Bayfield Community Centre, 80 Livingstone Street East – Tuesday to Sunday during open hours
  • Holly Community Centre, 171 Mapleton Avenue – Tuesday to Sunday during open hours

Enter the draw to win dinner for six at Fire Station 1! Draw will take place October 16th.

Oct 15 Home Depot Fire Safety Day

9am–12pm

10 Barrie View Drive

Watch how quickly fire spreads with a live side-by-side burn demo.  A fire truck will be on display outside and Firefighters and Georgian College students will work with kids on a fire safety craft inside the store.  Participants must register on-site, as space is limited. The event is in partnership with the Fire Marshal’s Public Safety Council.

Oct 15 DIY for Homeowners

1:30–2pm Registration; 2–4pm Event

Fire Station 1, 155 Dunlop Street West

Spend an afternoon with Barrie Firefighters to learn fire safety essentials such as alarm placement and installation, turning off gas, hydro and water, home escape planning, building an emergency kit and more. New this year, BFES will host open houses at all five fire stations. Tour the stations, check out the fire trucks, meet firefighters and enjoy light refreshments. Sparky will visit each location on a special antique fire truck and hand out treats! Follow his ride-along live with @Barrie_Fire
