Flood Concerns Increase As Heavy Rain Continues

Rainfall Warning extended to Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood areas

Heavy rain from overnight continues into the day. A Rainfall Warning remains in effect for north Simcoe County – including Barrie, Orillia, Midland and Collingwood, up into Muskoka and Haliburton. Up to 60 millimetres of rain expected in some areas today; closer to 15 millimetres in the Barrie-area. Water continues to rise in rivers and streams. The biggest concerns around Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Huntsville and Ramara. The Black, Big East and North Branch Muskoka Rivers of particular concern. The Town of Gravenhurst has made self-bagging sand bags available tor residents in flood prone areas; sand available for residents of Bluebird Street in Ramara. Conservation officials are keeping a close eye on things. The Nottawasaga and Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authorities are not expecting any major, but with waterways swelling they advise everyone to stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and streams and their slippery banks.
