HPV-Related Mouth/Throat Cancers On The Rise

Dramatic Increase Noted in Men Especially

The Canadian Cancer Society says some HPV-related cancers are on the rise, especially among men. They’re claiming mouth and throat cancers caused by the human papillomavirus have risen 56% in men, and 17% in women, between 1992 and 2012. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease in Canada, and the world, and while a publicly funded vaccine has been available in grade schools for over a decade, the focus has been predominantly on young girls. The Canadian Cancer Society is hoping their report will help expand HPV immunization to more boys.
