Innisfil Imposes New Rules On Fireworks

Town Restricts When Fireworks Can Be Launched, Bans Flying Lanterns

Innisfil has some new rules surrounding when and where you can shoot off fireworks. At their latest meeting, council voted on an updated Fireworks By-Law, which now says you can only shoot them off two days before or after a holiday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, or New Year’s Eve and Day. You’d also have to be eight metres or more from a building in winds of less than 40km/h. The new by-law also bans “flying lanterns” outright, the ones you set on fire and let float away. Fire Chief Jon Pegg told us the ban is preemptive, his firefighters have never responded to a fire caused by a flying lantern.
