Is Homework really necessary? One Teacher doesn’t think so….

Homework is seen as a necessary evil by most students, but is it really necessary?

As the new school year approaches, as a parent, I’m dreading the possibility of homework.  My oldest is only in grade 3, however; the homework can be hard and helping my son is often a struggle.  And don’t get me started about trying to get him to actually do it!  It’s a fight every time!

There’s a second-grade teacher near Dallas named Brandy Young.  And a letter she sent home to parents last week is going viral. Here’s why:

Because it said she’s not assigning any homework this year.  She said it’s because there’s still no proof that doing homework actually helps kids do better in school.  And she thinks spending more quality time with their family might work better.

Here’s the letter!

One student’s mom posted the entire letter on Facebook, and said her daughter is ecstatic about the new policy.  And apparently a few other teachers in their school district might try it too.

I would love this policy!  Would you?
