JAGS Bring Home Championship!

Parker Manktelow, St. Joseph’s Catholic High School

St. Joe’s (SJO) was a force to be reckoned with during its exciting day at Holy Trinity.

Participating in the annual all abilities Pierre Destine Memorial Soccer Tournament on March 28, our JAGS athletes dominated the competition. With three teams representing St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Barrie, each and every member gave it their all in an attempt to wipe out the competition consisting of teams from St. Joan of Arc (JOA), Holy Trinity, and Jean Vanier.

Every year Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford hosts an indoor soccer tournament in honour of Destine, a past student who suffered from a degenerative muscular condition and passed away at the age of 19 from a stroke. In his memory, schools come together to celebrate inclusivity, fun, and a little bit of competition.

This year, with a team full of determination, St. Joe’s successfully rallied together and earned a spot in the championship round. In a hard-fought match against the JOA Knights, the game was tied 1-1. Going into overtime, the JAGS continued to push themselves towards triumph. With one minute remaining, Matthew B. launched the ball into the top corner of the net, claiming victory for his team. The stands erupted into cheers as SJO was named the winner of the 2018 All Abilities Memorial Soccer Tournament!

The entire SJO student body would like to congratulate our athletes on this amazing accomplishment and wish them the best in all their upcoming tournaments. A big thank you goes out to Holy Trinity for coordinating such a fun day and to all the SJO volunteers, Parker, Alex, Dylan, Laura, Nico and Nicole, for supporting our athletes.
