MEET OUR STAFF & HONOUR THE WOMEN LOST TO GENDER BASED VIOLENCE BY LIGHTING A CANDLE

In 1989, 14 young women were murdered in Montreal just because they were women.  December 6th marks the anniversary of this massacre and we honour the women murdered on this day.  It is important to reflect on our past, present and future and commemorate the women that have been missing or murdered in Canada because of their gender.  It is important for us to remember that there are women and girls living with abuse and violence each and every day in our country and around the world.  That this issue is in your community and is everyone’s responsibility.  It is important for us to pay tribute to the women who have fallen, because in a world where gender based violence is present we all need to stand together to make a difference.  Each and every one of us can do our part to ensure that it stops, and does not continue in future generations.  The first step is becoming educated, and educating those around us, including our children.

Come and have a beverage and snack, light a candle and ask questions to the staff of My Sister’s Place about what we do in your community.  We are here to help heal, educate and empower women and children and we hope that you can join us in taking #thepledge to stop violence and abuse against women and girls
