Kilowatt-Fuelled Trucks Being Tested On Swedish Highway

Electric rails in the pavement also in the works

Sweden is testing technology that fuels electric-powered trucks as they cruise down the highway. A two-kilometre test stretch of highway, north of Stockholm, has been equipped with overhead electrical wires – similar to what you see on streetcars, and electric trains in Europe – that can be used to feed power into trucks that have a hybrid-electric motor. The power is fed into the truck through a current conductor on the roof of the truck. The trial was launched in late June and will continue until 2018.
