Shawn Mendes took to twitter on Wednesday night to tease the first single from his new album. Mendes said the song is the “closest to my heart that I’ve ever written.”

In My Blood dropped at midnight on Thursday. The power ballad tackles the subjects of loneliness and anxiety.
In an interview with Beats 1, Mendes said he wanted to make a more honest, rockier record this time around. “I was like, I want to make a Kings of Leon record – I want to go more rock.”
