A Happy End To An Extensive Search for A Missing Alcona Elder

Ken's Own Family Expressing Gratitude For Community's Response

Ken Armstrong has been found safe. The elderly man was first reported missing late Monday afternoon, from his Alcona home. A search for the missing senior with medical issues continued well into the evening, with a Barrie Police UAV and OPP helicopter, both equipped with infrared technology allowing a search of the Alcona area in the dark. Seventy-five year old Ken Armstrong went missing from his Goshen Road home in Alcona around 4:30 Monday afternoon, reportedly after a fire at his home spooked the man suffering from Alzheimer’s. He was found by a member of the public in the area of 25th Sideroad and 9th Line of Innisfil, a heavily wooded area rescue workers had gone through several times already.

The search was a day-long effort, involving not only law enforcement from South Simcoe, York Region, and Barrie but according to Ken’s own son via Twitter, complete strangers wanting to help a neighbour.
