National Jobless Rate Steady; Barrie Rate Up Slightly In December

Stats Canada reports the national jobless rate was unchanged last month at 7.1 per cent; that the economy added 22,800 jobs. In Barrie, the jobless rate rose slightly – 3/10s of a point –  to 6.4%. Mayor Jeff Lehman told Kool Fm News, “Employment (number of people with jobs) actually rose but the local labour market grew a little faster in December so unemployment rate went up a little.” In Ontario, the jobless fell 2/10s to 6.7 per cent.
