New Year Brings Leaf Burning Ban To Tiny Township
Too Many Calls; Too Many Large Brush Fires Cited
As of January 1, Tiny Township residents are no longer be permitted to burn leaves on their property. “Every year, Fire and Emergency Services responds to numerous calls for assistance as a result of burning leaves. In many cases, the result is a large, uncontrolled grass/brush fires and, in some cases, actual structural fires. Given the other options for disposing of leaves in a safer, more environmentally-friendly manner, discontinuing the burning of leaves is appropriate.” said Fire Chief Tony Mintoff. Tiny Township was one of a very few municipalities in Simcoe County that continued to allow the burning of leaves prior to the passing of this by-law. The County of Simcoe has provides leaf/garden waste pickup every two weeks during both spring and fall seasons. Residents can also mulch or compost leaves to enrich the soil in their gardens.
