Number Of Seat Belt Related Deaths Up From Last Year

OPP prepare for fall seat belt campaign

Some discouraging numbers from the OPP. As they prepare for their Fall Seat Belt Campaign, provincial police point out, so far this year, 42 people have been killed on OPP-patrolled roadways after not wearing their seat belts. This is up from 34 seat belt related deaths last year. During the first full week of September in fact, of the seven people killed in crashes throughout Ontario, six of them were not wearing seat belts. If those numbers don’t drive home the message, how about these ones: improper seat belt use comes with a fine of $240 and two demerit points.
