It says here the reason you’re hefty might have something to do with where you grew up. The University of Colorado Denver says the length of time children and young adults live in poor neighbourhoods is associated with obesity later in life. Researchers say the patterns are more pronounced for young women especially. The study shows when teen move out of low-income neighbourhoods, their risk of obesity decreases, while moving into a poor neighbourhood increases the risk. Teens who consistently live in poor areas are at the greatest risk of becoming or remaining obese in the future.
