Ontario Revamping Homelessness Strategy

$178m in Additional Funding To Help Issue

The province is throwing even more money at Ontario’s homelessness problem. Announced today, $178 million in funding towards combating the issue, with new legislation being introduced. They say the provincial homelessness strategy is to be updated with rules such as allowing those in need of affordable housing to choose where they live, as well as creating new zoning policy for municipalities, and a strategy to combat indigenous homelessness. This is on top of the $587 million the Ontario government put towards tackling the issue last year. The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness pegs the number of Canadians experiencing homelessness at around 235,000.
