Orillia City Council has given initial approval to move forward with Phase One of the Rec Centre project at 255 West Street South, which puts the centre on target for a summer 2018 opening. All Council Committee recommendations must be ratified by Council at its meeting on September 28. The project includes an aquatic centre, gymnasiums, fitness centre, multi-purpose rooms and more. “Staff and the project architect have been working diligently to move this project along,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “Council made building a recreation facility one of our top priorities and we are moving full-steam ahead on making it a reality.”
