Oro Medonte Kids Run

Name:  Oro-Medonte Kids Run 2019

Date:  Saturday, May 4th, 2019 (The community kids run coincides with the Children’s Mental Health Week)

Time: 8:00 am to 12 pm

Location:  The event will take place at the Burl’s Creek Event Grounds @ 240 Line 8 South in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, L0L 2X0.

Website:  www.orokidsrun.com

Aim:

The event is in support of youth mental health and addictions.  All proceeds from our fundraising efforts will go to the RVH Foundation in support of their Child and Youth Mental Health Program. The event will bring kids, families, and community partners together to continue the conversation on mental health and addictions.

Participants will be imparted with positive messaging around mental health and addictions, introduced to the health benefits of physical activity, and connected to community support services and resources. We would be honoured if you would attend our kids run and work with us to affect positive change in our community.

Course:

This chip timed event will have two races: 2.5 km (14 & under only) and 5 km (all ages).  The course is a flat 2.5 km loop on gravel pathways, which takes participants through open fields, past scenic landmarks, and through a wooded pond area.

Registration:

The “Oro-Medonte Kids Run” is open to kids of all ages, as well as their family and friends. Entry for both races combined will be capped at 300 participants.  Registration will close @ 11:59 pm on April 30th, 2019.

Note: Unlike the previous year, people will not be able to register right up until the morning of the run. There will also be no pre-race kit pick up on the Friday night.   Race kits must be picked up between 7 and 9 am on the day of the event.

Race Package:

Hot dog, ice cream, and a drink will be included in the participant race package, along with an event t-shirt and medal.  We are planning for 300 participants.  Medals will only be provided to the children.

Menchie’s has also generously offered to provide each participant (18&U) with a frozen yogurt certificate (valued up to $7) redeemable at their Bayfield store location.

Finally, a price will be awarded to each age category winner (Kindergarten, Primary, Junior & Intermediate) of the kid’s “Mental Health Matters” Artwork Challenge.

Mental Health Matter Artwork Challenge:

In order to raise awareness about child and youth mental health and addictions we have created an artwork contest during the month of April. Teachers are encouraged to roll out in their classrooms and promote discussions at home.  Individual submissions will be accepted as well.  Students will be tasked to create a poster of three healthy ways of coping with their mental health.  All posters will be displayed at the event in the lower part of the barn at Burl’s Creek.  The posters will be judged for their quality and creativity.  A prize will be awarded to the winner of each age category of the artwork challenge.  There will be four age categories: kindergarten (JK/SK), primary (Gr 1-3), junior (Gr 4-6), and intermediate (Gr 7-8).

Submissions must be on the Mental Health Matters Artwork Challenge Submission Entry Form.  Name, age, and school are required to be written on the back of the form.  Drawings can be in colour or black and white.   An announcement of the winners will be made at the Kids Run on May 4th, 2019.  The winners of the artwork challenge do not need to be in attendance.  Submissions are to be mailed collectively by the schools or individually to Shanty Bay Public School at 1871 Ridge Rd W, Oro-Medonte, Ontario, L0L 2L0  (Attn: Mental Health Matters Artwork Challenge).  Artwork has to be submitted by no later than April 30th, 2019.  By submitting your artwork you are agreeing that your artwork can be posted at the event and on our website.
