Power Play In Barrie Could Generate More Revenue, Cut Costs

Saving For Consumers Minimal

Barrie City Council is moving forward with a plan to sell some of its shares in PowerStream to pay for a merger between the utility and two others, and then buy Hydro One Brampton. Mayor Jeff Lehman says it will increase revenue for all concerned and save about $355-million over ten years. Consumers may see a $30 a year break on their utility bills, however the mayor concedes that saving could be gobbled up by increased costs from electricity suppliers.
