PowerStream Hit By Phone Scam

Don't be duped

PowerStream customers are the latest to be hit by a telephone scam. Some customers have been threatened with disconnection if they do not rush out to buy a prepaid credit card for a specified amount then call back with the card number. This scam may seem legitimate because call display will often indicate it is PowerStream calling. It’s not. PowerStream advises it does not ask for prepaid cards as payment, and will make several attempts to collect overdue accounts before delivering a final notice by hand prior to disconnection. PowerStream also does not disconnect services after 4 p.m. on weekdays or any time on weekends or holidays.

In the event customers receive a suspicious phone call, PowerStream advises the following:

  • Do not provide any personal information, including PowerStream or credit card account numbers
  • Collect any information possible about the caller
  • Contact PowerStream’s Customer Service department at 1-877-963-6900 during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., to report the incident
