Quick-thinking Homeowner Limits Damage From Fire

Family and pets escape unhurt

Fire Saturday afternoon in a rowhouse on Nathan Crescent in Barrie caused $100,000 damage and displaced a family of three and two pets. The fire originated in the basement. Fire officials say the homeowner was able to contain the heat and flames to the basement by closing a door, though there was smoke damage throughout the home. Smoke also entered an adjoining home, forcing the occupants to leave while fire crews vented the structure.
