Remembering Corporal Nathan Cirillo

Shot In Back As He Stood Guard At National War Memorial

Security on Parliament Hill was beefed up a year ago after Corporal Nathan Cirillo was shot and killed while guarding the National War Memorial…and it’s still being reviewed and revamped. It was a year ago today that Cirillo was killed and his attacker shot and killed inside the Parliament Buildings. Among the security changes has been a merging of RCMP and House of Commons security services. One had been responsible outside, the other inside. The change is designed to eliminate confusion in emergency situations. A service at the National War Memorial will be held at 11 o’clock this morning to honour Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent who was killed in a separate incident last year on Canadian soil.
